This fall is marked with the return of the lace trend. Lace has been seen on the Fall/Winter 2008 runways of Prada, Temperley, 3.1. Philip Lim, Giorgio Armani, Erin Fethertson, Derek Lam, Blugirl, and many more. The latest Prada Fall ’08 collection predominantly consists of lace in a form of clothing and accessories. This trend is surely followed by big retailers, like H&M and Zara, who have been carrying a number of pretty lace ensembles.

I’m always fond of lace fabric, it has that whole boudoir appeal. It’s delicate, romantic and mysterious at the same time. Black lace fabric, for instance, has that dark sexy feeling, provocative if worn against nude skin, yet it’s still a timeless piece of fabric. Take a look at our own Indonesian kebaya! They’re a staple to most Indonesian women’s wardrobe, and usually made of colorful lace materials. Most of us are willing to take several steps further just to custom made our kebayas in order to fit us perfectly. We’re even willing to suffer and “suffocate” by wearing a form-fitting corset just to look good in our lace kebayas.

Does any of you remember the deep plunging V-neck Gucci black lace dress from the late 90′s, when Tom Ford was still designing for Gucci? I was pathetically obsessed with that dress. I eventually had my tailor made two dresses out of a black lace material I bought from Mayestik; one with a black lining and another one with a nude lining. The one with the nude lining was my favorite one, it fitted me like a glove, definitely a dress-to-kill during my skinny days many..many.. yearssss ago hehe ;d Until today, I still have those two dresses hanging in my closet as a reminiscence of the good old days, since they don’t fit me anymore =(

This lace trend could be a little bit tricky to pull off, and if not carefully put together it could end up looking tacky. Don’t overdo by wearing lace head to toe. Wear it with minimal accessories. I would strictly stay on neutral and fall dark colors, like nude, white, red burgundy, black, tan, deep plum. And, I would mostly wear them as evening attires or for special occasions. Wearing lace during the day is also possible. I saw a couple of pretty daytime lace dresses and tops on Lucky magazine, where lace is used as a tiny accent to a dress or top, just to spice up your whole look.
What do you think of this upcoming trend? As for myself, I’m not sure I’m ready to wear body-hugging lace dresses again unless they’re enhanced by corsets like kebayas, or maybe worn with Spanx underneath ;d But, the lace peep-toes and booties below are quite tempting *droolsss
